Michael Jackson might’ve written the odd song in his career but would Off The Wall, Thriller and Bad really have gone down in history as the baddest albums/era’s of all time if Quincy Jones and Bruce Swedien had sang and performed them instead of MJ? Of course not. One could argue it’s great that the writers and producers are now getting their shine but just because they are great writers/producers does not mean the singer/performer is now obsolete. I really like Drake’s music and respect him as a lyricist but the reality is that 10 years ago he would have been behind the scenes where he clearly belongs and someone more talented wouldv’e delivered his material. Exactly the problem, the ordinary man has wrestled the music industry out of the hands of the talented and now we celebrate the mediocrity that’s put out in place of the quality that used to be respected and expected.
